A good story demands to be told, but there are now so many ways to tell it. Which is the best? Literature, film, theatre or some form of social media? Whatever. Remembering always that every story begins with words.

Cinema the Magic Vehicle

Why are films by Sergei Eisenstein, Orson Welles, Akira Kurosawa or Stanley Kubrick works of art? What elements of style and film technique are involved? What is vital to their personal vision? Here is everything you need to know about feature cinema: the films which have withstood the test of time and are well worth watching today, although many have been unjustly neglected.

A Comprehensive Guide, 1913-1950

This is a chronological panorama of the achievement of world feature cinema intended for film buffs, people wanting to know more about cinema and as a supplement to cinema and media courses at all levels, broadening the outlook of students and maybe even instructors. People seriously interested in the art of cinema will have some pointers to the films which have withstood the test of time and are still worth watching today, especially if otherwise neglected for various reasons.

Volume Two 1951 - 1963

The relative newness of the art of cinema makes it possible to discuss the entire key opus of feature-length films in a text of reasonable length. In a few years’ time, this will no longer be possible: until the Second World War no more than approximately twenty truly valuable films were being made worldwide each year, by the late 1950s their number exceeded forty and is now at least sixty. The book is intended both as a look at cinema as a whole and a description of individual works which have not become devalued with the passage of time.

Volume Three 1964 - 1966

The main concern here is the aesthetic quality of a film. What makes certain films by Erich von Stroheim, Sergei Eisenstein, Orson Welles, Federico Fellini, Robert Bresson, Akira Kurosawa or Stanley Kubrick works of art? What elements of style and film technique are involved? What is vital to their personal vision and makes their films what they are? Such questions can be answered by discussing the pictures individually. No previous acquaintance with cinema or wide general knowledge is assumed and a short introduction-synopsis of the most important events in cinema history is included.

We believe our work speaks for itself.

Maybe because most of them are stereo.

Sometimes they are Dolby 5.1 🙂
